From Flax to Linen: The making of a dress

I received some funding from ArtsNB in January 2019. This was so exciting. I proposed a project and was granted funding to make it happen.

I've been growing flax with my parents for the past few years but had yet to spin any of it. I was scared. All of the hard work of processing and I was worried the mediocre spinning would ruin the beautiful fibres. I knew I needed practice and came up with the project to do just that.

I purchased flax fibres from France and commercially spun yarn from Lithuania. I sampled and spun over the course of 17 months and finally finished this dress.

I spun the majority of the yarn, wove the fabric and sewed the dress (using Wiksten Shift pattern).
